What To Wear For Your Maternity Photo Session

One of the most common questions I am often asked prior to a photoshoot is always what should we wear?? In this blog post I will be focusing specifically on maternity wear.

Maternity photos can be some of the most beautiful and intimate photos you will take, therefore it is important to find the right outfit to make you FEEL your best. My job is not to only position you in the most flattering light and angle, but to guide and pose you in a way that will flatter your face and body while making you look and feel beautiful at the same time. I want you to look back at these photos with sense of pride and accomplishment, remembering the time that you grew a human inside you!

Pregnancy is such a special time in your life and for many women, (although you may not feel like it) you are at your most natural, and feminine state at that time. There is no better way to remember your pregnancy and this wonderful journey to becoming a mother then to have a professional maternity photoshoot. Here are a few tips to help you look and feel your best in your maternity photo shoot.

Maxi dresses. They are incredibly flattering, comfortable, and feminine hugging all your beautiful curves .  If the dress is flowy it is great to wear for a photo shoot since the movement it creates with flowing fabric looks amazing in a still photo.

Fitted/Tight dress. If you are comfortable wearing tight clothing and don’t mind showing off your pregnant belly curves, opt for a beautiful tight dress. Showing off your beautiful belly is a perfect way to pay tribute to your pregnant self.

Choose two or more outfits. Since most of my photoshoots start off in the comfort of your home, you have an option of choosing a more risque or a sexy outfit.

Be sexy. You can choose lace, or a see-through gown or if you are up for it you can even be in your undies. As long as you are comfortable in what you are wearing the photos will turn out beautiful. Having an option of two different outfits will give you a variety of photos to choose from when printing and hanging your photos in your home.

Don’t feel limited to just a dress. You can wear a sweater or your husbands button down shirt. Jeans and a sweater if our session takes place during cold months. A beautiful shawl, or a cool accessory. Switch it up and make it different and unique!

Avoid being too matchy-matchy with your partner. Coordinate your outfit with your partner, choose colors that go well together. Don’t wear matching colors, instead compliment each outfit to the other. Lay the outfits out on your bed to see if they look good together. You can also share your outfit ideas with me and I’ll be there to help you choose the best outfits for your session.
